Puerto Rican Roadmovie
Still Swiss - Patriots in the Caribbean
All photos were taken in summer 2007 on the grounds of the Hacienda Carabali, Puerto Rico by Lisa Ladner.
On the weekend before August 1st, 2007 (Swiss national holiday) William Tell and Helvetia felt like throwing a party. And so they invited their fellow Swiss that lived in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to join them at the foot of the caribbean rain forest El Yunque. Among the guests were several Germans - proofing that the difference between them and the Swiss grows smaller, the farther away from home they are.

For most of them this was an event of many first time's... At least it was the first time I threw an "Unspunnenstein", used a real "Armbrust", and saw female "Schwingerinnen" throwing each other into the "Sägemehl". And thanks to the fact that many of the Swiss who settled in Puerto Rico - some of them 50 years ago - the catering was excellent.

Unfortunately you can't hear what I did, when taking these pictures: the wonderful soundtrack of Gölä, Sina and other Best of Swiss Pop stars, different Swiss dialects mixed with Spanish, English and French accents, the "Jodlers", the cheers and the shots that reminded me of Saturdays in Switzerland...

Even though I'm Swiss-Puerto Rican I couldn't help feeling somewhat missplaced. But I'd consider to accept the invitation if Tell & Helvetia should throw another party next year.
